What happens on a Saturday?
We know it can be daunting to try out a new group but we can promise you a warm welcome and a friendly, supportive environment when you arrive!
Our main session takes place on a Saturday morning, which is an exciting hub of rehearsals, individual lessons and break-out spaces.
Here’s what to expect when you visit:
At the entrance
As you arrive, you’ll find our main desk just inside the entrance.
Come and say hi! We’ll help you and your parent/guardian get signed in, explain a bit about the music centre, and take you to your rehearsal.
You can go to the rehearsal on your own, or your adult can come with you for the first week if you prefer.
In the rehearsal
You’ll be introduced to your group’s director, who’ll show you where to sit, give you some music and introduce you to the members around you.
Don’t worry if you feel a little bit nervous – it’s very normal and many of the members will remember feeling a bit shy on their first day. You’ll settle in quickly!
The group directors are there to help with any questions or difficulties you have, and will be there to support you throughout the rehearsal.
If you’d rather, you can watch the rehearsal the first time and have a look at the music you’ll be playing so it feels a bit easier the next time you visit.
For parents who don’t stay in the rehearsal, we have a tuck shop area where you—and any siblings—can wait. The tuck shop offers a range of snacks alongside hot and cold drinks, making it a great space to socialise or catch up on work while rehearsals are running.
Alternatively, if you’d rather participate in the music-making yourself, you can join our adults' choir, Saturday Singers!
For the parents
After your rehearsal
The group director will check in on you during the rehearsal and chat with you at the end to see how you got on. You’ll find it gets much easier after a few weeks, once you’ve had a chance to learn the music and get used to how the rehearsals run.
Your director will also make sure you know where to go next—whether you’re visiting another rehearsal or need help finding your way back to the main desk.
Before you leave, come back to the desk and let us know how it went! We’ll be able to answer any questions you or your parent/guardian have and explain how you can join us as a member.
