What happens on a Saturday?
We know it can be daunting to try out a new group, but we can promise you a warm welcome and a friendly, supportive environment when you arrive!
Our main session takes place on a Saturday morning, which is an exciting hub of rehearsals, individual lessons and break-out spaces.
Here’s what to expect when you visit:
At the entrance
As you arrive, you’ll find our main desk just inside the entrance.
Come and say hi! We’ll help you and your parent/guardian get signed in; explain a bit about music centre and take you to the rehearsal.
You can go the rehearsal yourself, or for the first week your adult can come with you to the rehearsal if you prefer.
In the rehearsal
You’ll be introduced to your group’s director, who’ll show you where to sit, give you some music and introduce you to the members around you.
Don’t worry if you feel a little bit nervous – it’s very normal and many of the members will remember feeling a bit shy on their first day. You’ll settle in quickly!
The group directors are there to help with any questions or difficulties you have, and will be there to support you throughout the rehearsal.
If you’d rather, you can watch the rehearsal the first time and have a look at the music you’ll be playing, so it feels a bit easier the next time you visit.
For any parents who don’t stay in the rehearsal, we have a tuck shop area where you and any siblings can wait.The tuck shop offers a range of hot and cold drinks and snacks and is a place where many parents socialise or catch up on work whilst rehearsals are going on.If you’d rather participate in the music-making, we have an adult’s choir – Saturday Singers – which you can join!
For the parents
After your rehearsal
The group director will check up on you throughout the rehearsal and at the end to see how you got on.You’ll find it gets much easier after a few weeks, once you’ve had chance to learn the music and started getting used to how the rehearsals run.Your director will make sure you know where to go next – whether you’re visiting another rehearsal or need help finding your way back to the desk.Come and visit the desk and let us know how you go on! We’ll be able to answer any questions you or your parent/guardian has and let you know how to join as a member.
